Cabarrus County families have one more chance to hear from the school board before more than 35,000 students return to classrooms Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The Cabarrus County Board of Education holds its final business meeting of the summer Monday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m. at the Education Center, 4401 Old Airport Road in Concord. The session is the board's last chance to act on personnel, policy or budget matters before doors open.
The district's meeting announcement says a closed session will follow the open portion. The full agenda is posted on the district's Diligent board portal, though specific action items had not been publicly summarized as of Friday, Aug. 7.
Residents who cannot attend in person can watch the livestream on the CabCoSchools YouTube channel.
Bond vote, new Pre-K center provide backdrop
Monday's session is the board's first since the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners voted July 21 to place a $400 million education bond package on the November ballot. The package includes school construction bonds and community college bonds. Whether the board will discuss bond-related planning or timelines has not been announced.
The district also marked a facilities milestone Friday, Aug. 7, when Superintendent Dr. John Kopicki cut the ribbon on the new Mary Frances Wall Center at Beverly Hills in Concord. The 25,000-square-foot Pre-K facility, built on the former Beverly Hills Elementary campus, serves up to 300 students.
"The Mary Frances Wall Center represents our commitment to giving every child a strong start," Kopicki said at the Aug. 7 ceremony.
Same evening: elementary open houses
Parents juggling schedules should note that elementary school open houses across the district run from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10. That overlaps with the board meeting's 6 p.m. start. Middle and high school open houses were held Thursday, Aug. 6.
The board's previous session was a work session Monday, Aug. 3. After Monday's business meeting, the next board action will come with students already in class. Families can check the Diligent portal for agenda updates before the meeting.
