A $3 Powerball ticket bought at Sam's Mart on N.C. 49 in Harrisburg hit for $2 million in the Saturday, Oct. 31, Halloween drawing.
The ticket matched all five white balls to win $1 million, according to the N.C. Education Lottery. The 2X Power Play multiplier then doubled the prize. The odds of matching all five white balls are 1 in 11.6 million.
The winner has not been publicly identified.
The Harrisburg win follows another recent seven-figure Cabarrus County lottery payout. WCNC reported Oct. 29 that Donna Gray of Mount Pleasant won a $1.9 million jackpot on the $1 digital PowerMax Cash game. Gray played the game for the first time and beat 1-in-150-million odds.
"I said, 'I won big,' but he didn't believe me," Gray told WCNC in coverage published Oct. 29. "It took us both a couple of days to believe it."
The Halloween drawing also produced a $50,000 winner in Union County, WCNC reported. That $2 ticket was purchased at Stallion Monroe on U.S. 74 West in Monroe. It matched four white balls and the red Powerball, at odds of 1 in 913,129.
Both winners have 180 days from the Oct. 31 drawing to claim their prizes.
