Tommy Davidson, an original cast member of the Fox sketch comedy series "In Living Color," will perform stand-up at the Davis Theatre in downtown Concord on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
The show kicks off a four-act comedy series the Cabarrus Arts Council is producing in partnership with Comedy Zone Charlotte. The arts council framed the new series as a direct response to community demand, writing in a July 16 Instagram post that residents had been asking for live stand-up at the venue.
Davidson, 62, started doing stand-up in 1984 and won an amateur competition at the Apollo Theater in 1987 before landing on "In Living Color" alongside Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Damon Wayans and David Alan Grier. He has since voiced Oscar Proud in Disney's animated "The Proud Family" series and published a memoir, "Living in Color: What's Funny about Me," in 2020.
His Davis Theatre set will feature storytelling, impressions and quick wit, according to the Independent Tribune.
"I'm not dependent on anything. It's me, you get my mind, my perspective, I get to take you on a ride," Davidson said in a June 2022 interview with Revolt TV, describing why stand-up remains central to his career.
Attendees can add a Meet & Greet during checkout for an after-show session with Davidson, the arts council said in an Aug. 6 Facebook post.

The second confirmed act in the series is comedian Mike Goodwin, performing at the Davis Theatre on Friday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
