Republican Brian Echevarria is seeking reelection to North Carolina House District 82 against Democrat Chris Bishopp in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election. The official county candidate list confirms the matchup.
Background
His campaign biography describes Echevarria as a small business owner, former Cabarrus County GOP chair, husband and father.
Taxes and legislative record
The General Assembly’s bill records identify Echevarria as a primary sponsor of HB 432, a property tax relief study, and HB 1089, the property tax levy amendment measure enacted as Session Law 2026-5.
The session law places a proposed constitutional amendment before voters on Nov. 3. If approved, it would require the legislature to enact limits on increases in local property tax levies, with possible exceptions. The amendment is not already in effect.
Other priorities
His campaign emphasizes parental rights, lower taxes, constitutional freedoms and education. Its published statement supports a primary-residence tax exclusion for fully disabled veterans, survivor benefits for first responders killed in service, school safety and retaining teachers.
Campaign goals are attributed to Echevarria. Bill sponsorship is distinguished from enactment of the underlying policy.
