High school seniors in Cabarrus County who have participated in the Cabarrus County Fair can apply for up to $5,000 in scholarship money.
The Doris Y. Rogers Cabarrus County Fair Agricultural Scholarship opened its 2027 application cycle for current seniors, according to the NC Cooperative Extension Cabarrus County Center's scholarship page, which was updated Friday, Sept. 25. The scholarship gives preference to students planning to study agriculture or family and consumer science at a North Carolina college or university, though all eligible seniors may apply.
Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on available funds. The scholarship does not exceed the investment income earned in the previous fiscal year, according to the listing.
Who can apply
Applicants must be high school seniors living in Cabarrus County and enrolled in Cabarrus County Schools or Kannapolis City Schools. They must plan to attend a North Carolina college or university and must have demonstrated active participation in the Cabarrus County Fair.
The 2026 fair wrapped up Sept. 19 at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center, drawing 57,013 visitors over nine days, according to Cabarrus Compass. Courtney Wyatt, executive director of the Cabarrus County Fair, said in a Sept. 3 statement that the fair "brings our community together year after year."
How applications are judged
Four criteria carry equal weight at 25% each: involvement in the Cabarrus County Fair, post-secondary area of study, leadership and community service including letters of recommendation, and scholastic standing.
Past recipients
The Cabarrus County Agricultural Fair Board awarded the 2026 scholarship to three students: Lily Anne Carriker, Garrett Miller and Lillian Louise "Lily" Waller, according to the Independent Tribune. That cycle carried a June 30 deadline, with awards announced July 15.
