A free ceramics exhibition opens Monday, Sept. 28, at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College's Bridge Gallery in Concord, showcasing handmade work by current students and alumni of the college's art program.
"Fired – Where Function Meets Form" runs through Thursday, Oct. 29, in Building N107 on RCCC's North Campus at 1531 Trinity Church Road. A public opening reception is set for Thursday, Oct. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m., according to a Cabarrus Arts Council listing for the event.
The show highlights ceramic pieces that blend artistic expression with everyday use.
Among the featured artists is Joyce Darling, an RCCC alumna who earned her Associate in Visual Fine Arts from the college. Darling, a U.S. Army veteran, now owns and operates Darling Arts Studio & Gallery in Landis. She has received multiple Teacher of the Year awards, twice at the county level and once regionally, and has placed in several juried art shows, according to her studio's website.
RCCC's ceramics program has grown beyond its own campus. ClearWater Arts Center & Studios in Concord began hosting an RCCC-enrolled ceramics class in January, building on a collaboration between the two organizations that dates to 2014.
The college described the exhibition as a chance for visitors to view the work and meet the makers. Department Chair Bailey Wingler can arrange private tours by email at [email protected].
The Bridge Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and most Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
