Hickory Ridge's boys soccer team blanked North Stanly 5-0 on Tuesday, Aug. 11, giving the Ragin' Bulls a commanding start to the 2026 Yadkin Valley Conference season.
The Bulls traveled to New London for the conference opener and controlled the match from start to finish. The only other YVC boys soccer result from the opening week was a 1-1 draw between Gray Stone and Salisbury on Monday, Aug. 10.
On the volleyball court the same night, the Northwest Cabarrus Trojans swept North Rowan 3-0 to open their own YVC slate. The Trojans were one of several teams in action Tuesday across the conference, which also saw South Stanly top Anson 3-1, Gray Stone blank Salisbury 3-0, North Stanly beat West Stanly 3-1 and Christ the King defeat Union Academy 3-1.
The results mark the first YVC action of the fall for two Concord-area programs. South Piedmont Conference play opened earlier in the week, with Cox Mill and West Cabarrus posting soccer shutouts on Monday and four local volleyball squads seeing SPC action.
