The Cabarrus County Board of Education holds its last scheduled meeting before early voting opens on a $340 million school bond referendum.

The board's business meeting begins at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at the Cabarrus County Schools Education Center, 4401 Old Airport Road in Concord. A closed session will follow. The public can watch a live stream on the district's meeting page.

Early voting for the Nov. 3 general election starts Thursday, Oct. 15, with same-day registration available. Friday, Oct. 9, is the last day for new voter registration ahead of the election. The school bond question asks voters to approve up to $340 million for projects across Cabarrus County Schools and Kannapolis City Schools. A separate ballot question seeks up to $60 million for Rowan-Cabarrus Community College capital projects.

The Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners adopted the bond order on July 21, 2026. According to the official ballot language, the estimated cumulative cost over the life of the school bonds is $530,780,800. That breaks down to $340 million in principal and about $190.8 million in estimated interest. Homeowners would see an estimated property tax increase of $42.50 per year for every $100,000 of assessed property value.

The largest single project in the bond package is a $140 million replacement of Central Cabarrus High School. Other projects include $95 million for additions and renovations at AL Brown High School in Kannapolis, a $25 million addition at Jackson Park Elementary and HVAC, roof and plumbing repairs at schools across both districts, according to a county bond presentation. The county's bond materials estimate combined capital needs will exceed $1 billion over the next decade.

The full agenda for Monday's meeting is available on the district's meeting portal. Superintendent John Kopicki leads the district, which serves more than 35,000 students.

The board is also expected to recognize Juli Roach, a third-grade teacher at Carl A. Furr Elementary School, as the September 2026 Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month.

Residents who want more information on the bond before voting have several upcoming opportunities. Cabarrus County hosts a GO Bond information session with Q&A on Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Swanee Theatre, 200 West Ave. in Kannapolis. The district holds a community forum Thursday, Oct. 22, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at H.E. Winkler Middle School. A second county session is set for Monday, Oct. 26, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Harrisburg Library, 201 Sims Parkway.
