Hendrick Motorsports opens its Concord campus to the public Friday, Oct. 9, for Fan Fest and the grand reopening of the team's remodeled museum and team store.
All five Hendrick drivers will sign autographs and take fan questions throughout the day. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the team's headquarters in Concord.
Wristbands for the autograph sessions go to the first 120 fans in line. Distribution begins at 8:30 a.m. in front of the museum and team store, though the team reserves the right to start earlier if the line reaches 120 before then, according to Hendrick Motorsports.
The driver schedule: Corey Day (No. 17 O'Reilly Auto Parts Series driver), 10–11 a.m.; William Byron (No. 24), 11:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.; Kyle Larson (No. 5), 12:30–1:30 p.m.; Alex Bowman (No. 48), 1:45–2:45 p.m.; Chase Elliott (No. 9), 3–4 p.m.
The museum reopens after a remodel that added space for fans to walk all the way around the cars on display. The collection includes 88 trophies, 27 race cars, 83 helmets, 21 firesuits and a diecast wall with more than 460 scale models spanning the team's history.
Among the new additions is Chassis No. 580, the car Jimmie Johnson drove to his fifth consecutive Cup Series championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2010. It is the first time the car has been on display in the museum, according to a preview on the team's website.
Sam Ulrich, the team's archivist and museum curator, designed the exhibit layout around key eras in Hendrick history. "I wanted to create snapshots of time periods and seasons … Jimmie Johnson's five straight championships are captured in one block, for instance. And there's room for the future," Ulrich said.
The museum also features a viewing area into the Atrium Health Motorsports Athletic Center, the team's training facility.
Beyond the museum, Fan Fest includes food trucks, a kids zone, partner activations and race-used parts for purchase. SiriusXM Radio will broadcast live from the campus, with hosts Danielle Trotta and Larry McReynolds conducting interviews. Vice chairman and NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon will guest-host from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Campus tours run every half hour from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., limited to 30 people per group. Trams will shuttle fans between Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Hendrick campus from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In a Charlotte Motor Speedway preview published Sept. 30, Larson spoke about what racing at Charlotte means to the team. "Getting a win at Charlotte would be great not only for the points, but just getting a win at home is cool for everybody in the shop," Larson said.
Fan Fest falls on the opening day of the Bank of America 400 weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The EcoSave 250 Truck Series race runs Friday evening, followed by the Blue Cross NC 250 on Saturday and the Bank of America 400 Cup Series race on Sunday, Oct. 11. The team store stays open until 5 p.m.
